The Caledonian Thebans 20th Anniversary Celebrations [9 Jul 2022]

Two men in kilts and tartan trousers dancing togerher at a party

Last weekend I had the privilege of being asked to shoot the Edinburgh-based Caledonian Thebans RFC 20th Anniversary Ceilidh.

The Thebans are Scotland's premier inclusive rugby team who create a safe environment for anyone who wants to come and play rugby. They compete at all levels, from local leagues to International tournaments, and are proud members of the International Gay Rugby Association.

It was a real privilege to first photograph them last year when they hosted their annual Rugby Clinic - a huge event seeing players and teams coming from all parts of the UK and Europe. Not only were they welcoming to everyone taking part, they were incredibly welcoming to myself. So much so that I now see them as friends.

The event last Saturday was a wonderful occasion, with over 100 guests attending at The Place Hotel. It was a warm night so, of course, the drink was flowing nicely. After a number of hilarious speeches and awards ceremony (I'm disappointed the 'Muppet of the Year' wasn't there to collect his bronze cockerel trophy) a large majority of the attendees joined in the ceilidh. By the time I packed up and left kilts were definitely in full swing as was much laughter and hilarity.

Here's to the next 20 years for an incredible group of people. You are an inspiration to many!
